Moorish

**this is a product review - I was sent a sample. My opinion remains my own! I only positively review that which I genuinely like.

The question I ask myself every week, when ordering whizzed up chickpeas , is how do you spell humous? Hummous? Hummus? Houmous? Help me! I can’t lock it in. Boondoggle, a word I learned recently, went directly into the permanent zone of my circuitry but humous, a word I need on a weekly basis? It’s just not sticking.

For the purposes of continuity here, I’ll go with humous, but you can bet your bottom chickpea next time I’m doing a shop I’ll spell it with a smorgsbord more vowels.

I wouldn’t have to worry if it wasn’t for Gaz. I order it for him because he does not like homemade humous. We agree on most things, but chickpea whizz? He wants smooth, I like that homemade ‘rustic’ vibe.

This could be set to change. Moorish Dips sent me their new chocolate humous and it was so delicious, Gaz didn’t even get to sample it. My mum and I devoured the entire pot before he could even grab a spoon.

Like Nutella, but vegan friendly and 70% less sugar, it’s a blend of cocoa, coconut milk, tahini and chickpeas - that might not sound like it works, but it does. Like sweet potato brownies, or beetroot brownies. We are past the point of being surprised savoury things make a great base for sweet things, aren’t we?

If you happen to be on the Isle of Wight this summer, Django’s vegan restaurant is a very special place to dine. Pip is a superfan because the owners, Poppy and Aidan, always welcome her with open arms and lavish her in attention, which is a sign of good souls. Summer 2019, Poppy gave Pip chocolate humous to go. Honestly, Pip has not stopped talking about it ever since. And we’ve lived through a pandemic.
